Vespa Labs > Vespa FAQ > Oil
OilFrom $1Are there any particular brands or types you would recommend?Any good semi synthetic motorcycle two-stroke oil should do. For extra peace of mind (and extra cash) fully synthetic motorcycle two-stroke oil. Like petrol, try different brands till you find one you like. How to check the level in the reservoir visually? The sight glass is how you determine if you have 2 stroke oil. There is a bit in reserve below the sight glass, so don't panic if you see the oil getting down to this level. If you let the oil level go down to about half the sight glass, then the oil resevior will take a full 1 litre bottle (and this saves you carrying around a mostly empty oil bottle for a week). How often should oil be topped up?Your engine roughly uses 2% oil mix (this is at maximum throttle, at lower throttle positions it uses less). Assuming you put in 1 litre of oil each time, then that will last at least 50 litres of petrol. If you do a mixture of around town and highway riding, expect about one oil top-up for every 10 fuel top-ups (from fuel warning light).
