    We created a KDX designed pipe and added a flexible joint to run the pipe forward under the floorboards. The idea is to improve dynamic performance in a number of ways:

    • bringing the weight forward puts more weight on the front wheel and reduces the impact of aerodynamic lift
    • decoupling the pipes weight from the engine and rear wheel reduces the rear wheel unsprung weight so it will respond to bumps better and have less tyre stress
    • by having the body of the pipe in line with wheels rather than sticking out the side we reduce aerodynamic drag

    Learning Exercise

    I'm treating this as a learning exercise to up my skills in welding. I did a welding course about 3 years ago, with about 1 hours worth of MIG welding. Now I have my own MIG welder and a lot of welding to do on the exhaust.

    Here is the chopped up straight exhaust ready for welding...
